Craft Hack: DIY Watercolor Paints Using Markers

16 February 2019

Today I thought I'd share a simple art DIY that uses supplies you may already have at home! I'm not sure if this idea has been posted before as a craft-hack, but I know it is handy for me when I decide to have a mini-art project day from home. If you give this hack a try, comment below and link your work of art. There is also a Pinterest friendly tutorial at the end to share!

You Will Need

Markers

I used Crayola Pip-Squeaks Washable Markers, but any markers similar to these (washable or non-washable) should work.

Paint holder

This will be helpful for making and mixing your DIY watercolors

Paint brushes

As a suggestion, smaller sized brushes tend to work best.

Water

Only a little amount is needed and will be added to one of the paint holder spaces.

Napkin or Paper Towel

It will be useful to clean up any "happy little accidents" and wipe off your brush in between uses.

How-To Steps

1. Fill one disc of the paint holder with water. Pick one or more markers to color in the other empty discs.

2. Dip the paintbrush into the water-filled disc. Mix the brush with one of the marker colored discs.

3. Apply paint brush to paper. Wipe off paint brush with a napkin before using another color (avoids muddy colors).
